Top St Martins Graduates:

Vicary's CSM Ba collection
His collection for Oli

No 5: Thomas Vicary

Winner of the prestigious Lancome Colour Design Award for Innovation, Thomas Vicary is hotly tipped to be the next Alexander McQueen. His BA collection which won him the prize was inspired by the Nazi flag and drew much attention both positive and negative. He has now designed a collection for Oli Fusion Designers. Although it is no less impressive he explains the reasons for the mainstream change as ;
"The problem was that when you are doing something like that, people look at it only as an artistic gesture and overlook that fact that real articles of clothing have been made. Thus a danger arises that you will be looked on only as a renegade student who wants to draw attention to himself."
For the Oli collection he marries sharp tailoring and femininity with a young edgy twist and the colour palette draws inspiration from the black and the red of his Flag collection. Although he has branched into the mainstream fashion I doubt this young CSM MA graduate will stay that way, keep an eye out a he will continue to push the fashion boundaries and rules.
